Experiential Marketing Examples in India: 11 Real Campaigns

Planning this for your company in Pune or anywhere in India? WhatsApp RareAct or send us your brief.

The strongest experiential marketing examples in India turn a brand idea into something people can actually do. Royal Enfield's Motoverse rider festival, Zomato's Zomaland food carnival, Apple's BKC store, Red Bull's Soapbox Race, and the comfort, access and style zones RuPay, Kotak and H&M built at concerts and festivals all fit that description. Each one met a real audience need or desire instead of just putting a logo on a stage. Every campaign below is publicly documented and linked to its source, and none of them is RareAct's work.

Which experiential marketing examples in India are worth studying?

We picked these because the brand itself or a credible publication has documented them, and because each one teaches something different. Where we quote results, they're as reported by the cited source, often from post-event surveys run by the organiser. Treat them as indicative, not independently audited.

1. Royal Enfield Motoverse: a festival built by the community

Royal Enfield's annual Motoverse in Goa is a three-day celebration of motorcycling culture, with motorsport, music, workshops and custom bikes. It grew out of Rider Mania, which the brand says marked a shift in 2012 when over 1,500 Royal Enfield riders rode to Goa. Royal Enfield describes Motoverse as "built by the community, for the community".

What we take from it: if your customers already share an identity, give them a place to celebrate it and let them help shape the programme.

2. Zomaland by Zomato: making a food app physical

Zomato turned restaurant discovery into a ticketed carnival of food, music and games. For the 2022–23 season, Zomato announced Zomaland in seven cities, starting in Pune, with around 400 restaurants and 140 hours of entertainment, and said its 2019 season had hosted about 1,50,000 visitors. Inc42 reported that the format was first announced in 2018.

The point here is that a digital brand can build a physical home where people experience its whole promise (great food, good times) in one go.

3. Apple BKC, Mumbai: the store as an experience

When Apple opened Apple BKC in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex in April 2023, its first retail location in India, it presented the store as a place to explore products and learn through free Today at Apple sessions. A special "Mumbai Rising" series brought visitors, local artists and creatives together.

Retail space can be designed for learning and community as well as transactions. A store people visit to learn something gives them a reason to come back even when they aren't buying.

4. Red Bull Soapbox Race India: participation as the headline

Red Bull's Soapbox Race asks amateur teams to build gravity-powered karts and race them in front of a crowd. Autocar India reported that the third Indian edition, held in Hyderabad on 3 March 2024, got over 3,300 registrations from more than 23 states, with 30 teams shortlisted. Earlier editions ran in Mumbai in 2012 and 2016.

When the audience is the content, the experience markets itself before, during and after the day. Red Bull barely has to say anything.

5. RuPay "Lolla Comfort" at Lollapalooza India: utility over noise

According to the BookMyShow and EY-Parthenon report Beyond Attention. Into Immersion, RuPay recognised that at all-day festivals "comfort becomes a form of privilege" and created Lolla Comfort by RuPay, an access-led comfort zone for tired festivalgoers. The report cites a BookMyShow post-event survey in which 61% of respondents felt RuPay enhanced their festival experience, and activated consumers showed a 55% uplift in likelihood to purchase.

This is our favourite on the list. Fixing a real annoyance in the moment can earn more goodwill than a bigger logo ever will.

6. Kotak: access and recognition at concerts

The same EY-Parthenon report describes how Kotak offered card-linked pre-sales, express entry lanes and dedicated fan zones across tours including Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5, Backstreet Boys and Guns N' Roses. It reports 72% brand recall at the Guns N' Roses concert, based on a BookMyShow post-event survey.

For financial brands, giving people priority and recognition is how card benefits stop being fine print and become something they feel.

7. H&M "The Sound of Style" at Lollapalooza India

H&M built its festival presence around a simple insight: people dress up for live entertainment. The EY-Parthenon report describes an immersive fashion runway, an H&M Backstage viewing deck, an AI photobooth and a karaoke zone. It reports 91% brand recall and a 58% uplift in likelihood to purchase among people who engaged with the experience, based on a BookMyShow post-event survey.

Connect the product to what the audience is already doing at the event, and you don't have to drag their attention anywhere.

8. House of McDowell's Soda Yaari Jam: an owned music IP

Diageo grew its long-running "Yaari" (friendship) idea into The McDowell's Soda Yaari Jam, a music-led experiential property. The EY-Parthenon report states that the first edition engaged over 50,000 consumers across five cities and that the property was being scaled to 15 cities.

An owned property that comes back every year builds brand memory in a way one-off sponsorships rarely do.

9. Nykaaland: a beauty festival for discovery and trial

According to the EY-Parthenon report, BookMyShow Live and Nykaa put together Nykaaland as a beauty expo presented like a music and pop-culture festival, with brand-led zones, creator interactions and hands-on testing. exchange4media reported that participating brands treat it largely as a brand-building and discovery investment, and that executives find direct sales attribution difficult.

A platform brand can host an entire category. If you're a brand taking space at something like this, sort out how you'll measure it before you book the stall, not after.

10. Mahindra Adventure: teaching customers to use the product

Mahindra Adventure runs owner events like the Great Escape and Club Challenge, plus an off-road training academy at Igatpuri where participants learn 4x4 fundamentals in a prepared vehicle.

Experiences that build a customer's skill deepen loyalty, and they show the product doing what it was built for.

11. Asian Paints Beautiful Homes Studio: décor you can walk through

Asian Paints' Beautiful Homes Studio in Guwahati, its second such studio, spans about 16,000 square feet over two levels and lets visitors explore furniture, lighting and décor in styled spaces, reported STIRworld.

For big, considered purchases, a physical space takes away a lot of the uncertainty and gives people the confidence to spend more.

What do these Indian campaigns have in common?

Each one starts from a real insight: comfort at festivals, the urge to dress up, riders wanting a tribe, food lovers wanting to discover something new. People participate instead of watching. They race, ride, taste, try on, learn or make something.

They also fit Indian culture. They turn up where audiences already gather, whether that's a ride to Goa, a concert or a city carnival. Several are recurring properties (Motoverse, Zomaland, Yaari Jam and Nykaaland), so each edition builds on the last one. And all of them are designed to produce moments attendees want to share, which is worth planning for deliberately.

How can a B2B or corporate brand use these lessons?

The same principles scale down to a dealer meet in Pune, a client roundtable in Mumbai or an employee day in Bengaluru:

  1. Start with the friction or aspiration your audience feels, not your product features.
  2. Give guests something to do: a demo, a workshop, a challenge or a conversation that matters to them.
  3. Design for recognition. B2B audiences value access, status and being heard.
  4. Make it recurring. An annual partner meet or a quarterly client forum can become your own IP.
  5. Decide upfront how you'll measure success. Our guide to experiential marketing ROI walks through it.

FAQs

What is a good example of experiential marketing in India?

Royal Enfield's Motoverse festival in Goa is one of the best known: a three-day event of motorsport, music and workshops built around the brand's rider community. Zomato's Zomaland food carnival is another, turning a food app into a physical experience across cities.

Which Indian brands use experiential marketing well?

Publicly documented examples include Royal Enfield, Zomato, Apple (Apple BKC), Red Bull, RuPay, Kotak, H&M, Diageo's House of McDowell's Soda, Nykaa, Mahindra and Asian Paints. Each uses a different format, from festivals and stores to concert access zones.

Do experiential campaigns in India deliver measurable results?

Some brands report results through post-event surveys, like the recall and purchase-intent figures in the BookMyShow and EY-Parthenon report. Others, as exchange4media has reported, still find direct sales attribution hard, which is why you should plan measurement before the event.

Can smaller brands run experiential campaigns like these?

Yes. The ideas underneath (fixing a real annoyance, inviting participation, building community) work at small scale too, through workshops, store events, society activations or small client gatherings.

Are any of these campaigns RareAct's work?

No. We've included these examples for learning, and they're credited to the brands and sources linked above. RareAct doesn't claim any involvement in them.
